Wismec Reuleaux RX75 Review

Wismec has seen some great success with their Reuleaux line, having multiple box mods that carry the name. One that is often overlooked is the trusty RX75, a one battery vape mod that was truly unique upon its first release. Here we’d like to double back and make sure you haven’t missed an opportunity to consider the Wismec Reuleaux RX75 Kit, so we’re going to take it out for one of our patented reviews and we’re glad to bring you along.

Wismec took a really different approach to the design of the RX75 box mod, and it’s one that still stands out today. While many vape mods have opted for the “side by side” one battery design, this one is still quite unique. This is partly because of the door or flap that covers the entire OLED screen as well as the +/- adjustment buttons. They’re basically hidden away, as is is the colouring around them – of which you have four different options (black, red, white, and turquoise).

What makes a company hide away all of facets that generally stand out in box mods? Well, for one thing it does create a sleek sort of visual where everything looks smooth. There’s definitely a stealthy element when all you see is black, along with a tank on top (the included Armor mini tank) that is also black aside from the clear glass. On the opposite side of the door is where the 18650 battery is housed. What’s clever here is that battery housing also serves as the fire button. This adds to the overall design that makes this akin to a black box of sorts.

The build also feels sort of like a black box, partly because this is clearly metal and not plastic. While a lot of companies have since switched to plastic of some type, it’s great to have the feel of metal in a box mod. It drives a nice balance of being smooth to the touch, but having enough friction to make it ergonomic. The battery plate as well as the screen door open and shut as they should, without any give. If there was a downside in this section, it would be that it is a bit on the heavy side, and perhaps a little big too, for a one battery set up like this.

As the name indicates, this is a box mod that maxes out at 75 watts. That’s still plenty of power for most vapour fans, so we full expected to measure its performance against the best out there. In terms of power, Wismec hit the mark and really gave us admirable read outs. We rather quickly were able to take it up past 50 watts and into the 60s. It struggled some to reach the top end but that’s normal and we don’t put too much weight into that aspect.

Coupled with the Wismec Armor mini tank that comes in this kit, we loaded up the e-liquid and tried a few different settings. It seems that this combo works exceedingly well in producing large amounts of vapour as we felt like we were wading through clouds very early on. They were big and they were satisfying, so if that is your thing you’ll love the Reuleaux RX75. Unfortunately, it seems like flavour production took a bit of a hit because of it. After playing around with different approaches, we did get to rather good flavour output but it still was somewhat lacking. This isn’t to say that you won’t get flavour at all, but it is clearly the weak point of this vape mod.

Wismec throws in a number of modes here, more than one would expect for when this box mod was first released. In addition to variable wattage, you get a rather good temperature control mode. It’s good for nickel, titanium, as well as stainless steel and worked well for all of then. This isn’t a foregone conclusion, as temperature control can be tricky, but we didn’t have any problems and it responded well to all the types of atomizers we threw at it.

If you’re a more advanced vaper, then don’t confuse this with being a beginner only box mod. You can dive further into your settings with the included TCR mode, which means you can really fine tune what you’ll get out of the RX75. In addition, you can crank it up to your heart’s desire with the bypass mode – but as always you’ll want to be careful with that.

Ease of Use:

There’s two ways to look at the ease of use for this box mod. On the one hand, it has simple menu setups that allow you to get to what you need fast. All of that comes in the form of a high clarity OLED screen, so you won’t have any problems with reading the information. On the other hand, all of this is hidden away by the screen door. So, we can say it is very easy to use once you have it set up, but it is more challenging to make changes on the fly because of that physical barrier. It may not seem like much, but it does change how you vape if you are a person that likes to fiddle with settings a lot.

Another issue that could come up with ease of use is the fact that the battery casing serves as the fire button. Because you’re gripping it while you are using the menu, it’s easy to accidentally fire the vape mod. Thankfully, Wismec was prepared for this and added a locking mechanism at the top that prevents the fire button from activating. Thus, it does takes one more step, but we generally like being able to lock the fire button so this is a plus overall.

The Armor mini tank is also pretty simple to use, and screws on very nicely to the Reuleaux RX75. It has a top fill design, but it’s the old way of doing things so you actually need to unscrew the entire top cap to get to filling it. Not really a big deal, but it pales in comparison to the more prevalent kinds that let you push aside the drip tip to reach the filling hole.

At £54.99 for the best price we found for this kit, Wismec sets a roughly average price point. One could say it is a little high based on the lower wattage, but don’t forget it also comes with a tank too.

The Verdict:

This is a really interesting product to review and we’re happy we made time to get back to it. It isn’t among the newest box mods on the market, but it still has a really important place that it fills. Really, nobody has replicated the black box look with the front cover in any real way. We actually really liked this approach so we’re surprised there aren’t more copycats out there.

The Wismec Reuleaux RX75 75W Kit is a really nice setup that gives you some unique qualities. If you’re into big vapour, you’ll be thrilled with what this lower wattage setup can do. It really is impressive. On the other hand, there is something to be lacking from the flavour. If you have a tank that you love for flavour, you could always pop that on this box mod as we had great luck mixing and matching. Regardless, this is a solid option that shouldn’t be tucked away anytime soon. The RX75 brings something really great to the table and at a solid price, so you’ll definitely want to consider it if you’re in the market for a new vape mod.
